The author Owen Hackett was born in Tullamore Co. Offaly, Ireland. He began learning the banjo when he was 17 years old, at that stage his local pals instantly lost a goalkeeper.

His perseverance paid off and after a few years he was invited to play with Joe Delaney's Ceili Band. He was with the band for over 7 years and left about 1974 He also played in Fleadh Cheoil competitions with Sean Ryan's Band, and the

Pre- Bridge Ceili Band. (See label of their CD)

He Won Four Senior All Ireland Competitions on the Banjo -

Three times on his own and Once with a Trio. The other Members of the trio were - Ellen Flanagan - Accordion & Eugene Nolan (of the Bridge Ceili Band) Concert Flute.

The trio was Invited to America by Bill McEvoy for approximately 6 weeks. Unfortunately Eugene couldn't make the trip and Excellent Fiddle Player Maura Connelly from Edenderry filled the gap.

Owen also played with various ballad groups over the years and has written many Traditional Irish Music tunes and a few songs. He has been Teaching the Banjo (on and off) since the mid 70's. He also gives workshops on the Banjo and has Adjudicated at many Fleadh Cheoil competitions.

This Music Book is Full of Highly Original Tunes

Composed by the same author of the Excellent Irish Music Banjo Tutor.

These tunes are very suitable for the Irish Banjo, as well as all other instruments.

Some have been played on Céilí House and other programmes.

Some of the tunes have been recorded by other musicians including 'Boys of The Lough.'

On the CD,

Owen is playing the banjo and also joined by a host of other musicians.

This CD is excellent as a stand alone medium to hear excellent Irish Music
